Folio keeps a copy of your most recent state in this browser's local storage, written every time it tries to save (whether the cloud succeeds or not). If something went wrong with the cloud — or if you just want to fork off your latest state — this is where you recover it.

Folio takes 0% of tips — every cent goes to the author. Support keeps the platform ad-free.

Folio exports a print-ready PDF with embedded fonts. Pick a print-on-demand provider below to turn your manuscript into a paperback — readers order copies directly from them, and you keep the royalties.
Folio uploads your print-ready PDF to Lulu and creates a draft print job. Nothing is charged until you review and approve it on Lulu's developer portal.
Not every level reaches every country. Click "Get price" to confirm your choice works for this address — if it doesn't, pick the next level up.

Lulu needs a cover PDF. Use any of these to make one at the right size — a generated placeholder is included automatically if you skip this.
Publish a read-only copy of your folio that readers can open in their browser. Your folio stays editable — readers always see the latest version.
Anyone with the link can read. No account required beyond Folio's auto sign-in.
Ko-fi, Payhip, PayPal, Stripe, Lemon Squeezy — any vendor with a checkout URL. Add auto-delivery below and Folio emails the unlock link on your behalf.
PayPal (native checkout) renders the PayPal buttons directly on your paywall — buyer never leaves Folio, payment lands in your PayPal Business account.
Set your Price + Currency below — the buttons SDK charges that amount per purchase.
After someone pays through your checkout URL, email them this code. They paste it on the paywall page to unlock the book for 30 days. Pick anything memorable but not guessable — change it occasionally if you suspect a leak.
Connect a payment vendor once for your account. When someone buys any of your paid folios, Folio auto-emails them a one-click unlock link (no code to paste) and notifies you of the sale. Supports Ko-fi, Payhip, and PayPal. Show me exactly what to do →
The Ko-fi way — easiest to set up. You’ll create a shop product on Ko-fi, then connect it to Folio. Ko-fi handles the money, Folio handles delivering the book. You can’t break anything by clicking around — just follow along.
https://ko-fi.com/s/xxxxxxxxxx. Paste it into the Checkout URL field above.Where things live in Ko-fi: everything is under the More button (top-right of ko-fi.com when signed in). The product URL is what you see in your browser when viewing your own product page.
The Payhip way — good for a proper shop feel. Payhip is closer to Gumroad in style. It takes 5% + Stripe/PayPal processing on the free plan (0% on paid plans starting at $29/mo).
If you can’t find the Signing Secret, look under Settings → Advanced → API. Payhip has moved this around a few times.
The PayPal way — most flexible, most steps. PayPal isn’t a shop platform, so we’re using PayPal.me + their developer webhooks. The buyer clicks PayPal.me, sends you the exact price, and PayPal notifies Folio to send the unlock. Zero platform fees (only PayPal’s payment processing).
https://paypal.me/yourhandle/9.99 (with the amount at the end). Paste into Checkout URL above.PayPal quirk: the developer dashboard has two modes — Sandbox (fake money) and Live (real). Make sure you’re in Live for real sales. Tab is at the top-right.
You can’t break anything doing this. If you get stuck, click Disable above to remove the config and start over. Nothing you set here affects your existing folio content — it’s all about how buyers get unlock emails.
Account-wide setup. Connecting a vendor here saves the webhook secret once for your Folio account. Every paid folio you release using that vendor uses the same webhook URL — no need to reconfigure per book.
Tailor the call-to-action to your scenario — Kickstarter pre-launch ("Follow to be notified"), active crowdfunding ("Back the project"), mailing-list signup, pre-order, regular checkout, etc. Leave both blank to fall back to the standard "Continue reading on <domain> →" copy.
Tweak the lock-card copy to match your wording — "This chapter is part of the pre-launch reward," "Back the project for instant access," etc. Each placeholder shows the default; leave blank to keep it.
Readers can read this many sections before the paywall appears.
Mark any paid chapter as a shareable teaser. Each gets a Copy link button that produces a public URL unlocking just that one chapter — perfect for a social-media hook or newsletter excerpt. Free-preview chapters are visible to everyone already and don't need to be teasers.
Readers can browse, search, and filter every folio on the Shelf. Free or paid, all are welcome. Listed folios link to your reader URL — payment + unlock still flow exactly as configured above.
Pick a primary genre (used for shelf categorisation) plus optional secondaries. Add tags for tone, tropes, and content advisories — this is what lets readers filter on "fantasy romance BUT NOT spicy" and land on the right books.
Type the same series name on each book (spelling matters). Folios sharing a series show up together on your Imprint page + as a series card on the shelf, sorted by book number. Leave both blank for standalone books.
Book # counts within this series only — each series starts again at 1. If several series share a universe, name it in the field above and they'll group under it on your shelf.
Use an in-world date or era rather than a number — it places this series on the universe's timeline without telling readers they have to read the others first. Tick ✦ Start here on ONE book per series (usually book 1) — a new reader can safely begin there.
Featured listings sit at the top of the Shelf with an ✨ badge and a gold border. Best for new arrivals, Kickstarter pushes, and quiet folios that deserve a second look. Pay once via PayPal — your listing goes live the moment payment clears. If you're already featured, buying again extends the boost from now.
Readers see a 🎧 button in the reader bar; opens an in-browser player synced to chapters. Free releases unlock immediately; paid releases require the Gumroad license; serial releases unlock chapter-by-chapter alongside the text.
+alias (like you+folio-resonance@gmail.com) so your real inbox stays out of public view.
Off (default): readers can export whatever's visible — for a paid+teaser release that means just the preview
and teaser chapters. Encourages "I'll email this chapter to a friend" sharing.
On: the export menu greys out until the reader has purchased the book.
The next 72 hours are when your launch has the most momentum — a Featured Boost puts you at the top of the Shelf with the ✨ badge so readers actually find you. $9 via PayPal. Not now? No worries — the tier buttons are always in the section above.
Best for Mailerlite via a Zapier "Catch Hook → Add Subscriber" zap. The webhook URL is stored on the public release doc — Zapier's random URLs are safe by obscurity, but never paste a Mailerlite API token here.
